Most people like to save money when they can reasonably do so. If the price of the same model of television is a hundred dollars less at one store than it is at another, it would be foolish to purchase it at the more expensive store. However, if the cost of a Will or Revocable Living Trust is less online than it is at an experienced attorney’s office, you would be foolish to take the cheaper option.
The laws in most states are deceptively similar. Anyone can read the estate laws in Iowa and Ohio, for example, and see a lot of similarities. However, there are differences that are harder to pick up. Many of the differences do not actually show up in the statute books. They come from decisions made by courts that only attorneys who practice in the state know. When you get your estate planning documents online, these differences and court rulings are not accounted for. That can make your estate plan completely ineffective.
You might also want to consider whether an expert can help you by tweaking the estate planning documents to better suit your needs. Not every Trust is the same because different people need different Trust terms. Do not go cheap in estate planning. Online forms will not give you the plan you need.
