Most of us are pretty used to the idea that in life there are just certain things you cannot do. Restrictions on what you can do are everywhere and we do not think too much about them. We all understand that we cannot take someone else’s property, for example, without facing serious consequences. We are so used to the restrictions that we think they are natural. There is one area of life, however, that has very few restrictions. You can leave your estate to whomever you want with very few restrictions.
If you are married, then you cannot cut a spouse out of your estate but that is because of the conscious decision that you made to get married. Other than that, you are more or less free to do whatever you want with your estate. You can give your property away to complete strangers if you want. You do not even need a reason for what you do with your estate that anyone else understands.
If really are free to do what you want with your estate. Talk to an estate planning attorney about how to do it.
