Don’t Follow Trends

Dennis D. Duffy · Aug 13, 2012 ·

It is easy to get caught up in the latest trends in estate planning. When someone decides that some new way to plan your estate is the best option, the word quickly spreads and everyone wants to get the same thing. Companies and websites spring up to sell you whatever the latest estate planning trend is. You can even attend expensive seminars to learn all about how wonderful the trend is. Currently, the trend is a Revocable Living Trust.

Revocable Living Trusts are excellent devices to use in estate planning. They are more than just the latest fad. However, they are not your only option. You do not have to get a Revocable Living Trust and getting one might not be the best option for you. Rather than just going for the latest trend because someone else thinks it’s a good idea, you should ask around about other options.

Of course, when you ask around about other options, the only thing you might hear is more about Revocable Living Trusts, if you are asking the wrong people. If you truly want to hear all of your options, talk to an experienced estate planning attorney. A Revocable Living Trust might turn out to be your best option. You owe it to yourself to find out for sure.
