Some people don’t think that they need estate plans because they intend to spend everything they have left during their retirement years. Of course, it’s their money so they can do with it what they want. However, it is unwise to not have an estate plans, even if you don’t plan on having anything left after you pass away,
Consider what will happen if you pass away before you get a chance to spend everything. While we all hope to have long retirements, not all of us are going to have them. Some of us will pass away earlier than we expected to. You also might just never get around to actually spending everything. You might have planned to take a vacation around the world or buy an RV, for example, but many people find that they do not actually ever get around to doing those things.
You need an estate plan, just in case what you think will happen with your retirement never actually happens. It might end up being a very simple estate plan, but you do need something so that whatever you accidentally do end up leaving behind goes to who you would want to have it.
