Helping with Long Term Care…Even if You’re Out of Town

Dennis D. Duffy · Aug 8, 2011 ·

It can be difficult to see an elderly loved one continue to need more help and long term care. It can be especially difficult if you live out of town. Youre not sure how to help, but you want to make sure that youre able to assist your loved one as much as possible. Take a look at some of the information below, to better understand how you can assist your loved one even if youre not in the same town. If you have any questions, or if youd like to discuss long term care options for your loved one, contact an estate planning attorney.

Its important to stay in touch with your elderly loved one as much as possible. This may include calling your loved one every day to make sure that his or her needs are met. It can also be beneficial to stay in contact with family and friends who live around your loved one. This can be a good way to get an honest update on your loved ones care needs. In many cases, elderly individuals may not realize how much help they now need.

Discuss care options with your loved one as well as family members. Its important not to put off long term care planning. You may need to make the difficult decision of putting your loved one in a long term care facility. Come to this decision with the help of professionals, your family and friends, and your loved one.

You may still be able to help in your own way. This may include handling financial aspects of your love ones care which can be done online. Speak with your family and friends to see how you can be of help, even though you are out of town. It can be extremely helpful to have multiple people caring for your loved one. This allows your loved one to receive the best level of care possible while also allowing each individual to help in his or her own way.

If you have any questions about long term care possibilities, consult with a qualified estate planning attorney.
