Most people interested in planning their estate have at least heard of a Living Trust. It’s difficult to avoid hearing or reading anything about them today because of their popularity in estate planning. If you Google anything about estate plans, it will not be long before you read something about Living Trusts. However, just knowing that they exist is not enough. You need to know what they are and how you can use them.
A Living Trust is an entity you create during your lifetime that you place assets in and that are held for the benefit of someone other than the Trust itself. They can be revocable or irrevocable. Trusts can be used for many different purposes. You can use a Living Trust to avoid having your estate go through Probate. You can use a Trust to protect an heir’s inheritance from his or her creditors.
